Awards Success

Boudoir Superstar - Leeds based professional boudoir photography studio - was delighted to celebrate success at this month's MPA national awards ceremony held in Birmingham.

Not only did Andrea Barrett lift a stunning glass trophy for the title of Mario Acerboni 'Three Photos From One Wedding' for Yorkshire, but also gained a merit in the national Fashion and Glamour stakes for a striking boudoir photo taken earlier this year in one of our bedroom sets.

And that wasn't all. A beautiful photo from the 1920s wedding of David and Jurga also received a merit in the Classical Wedding category (see the bottom two photos below, shown in the Wall of Fame Gallery book printed by Graphistudio).

To view Andrea's winning Mario Acerboni images, click here.

The Boudoir Superstar team had a fantastic evening, which is thanks to the MPA and its members, and is now very much looking forward to the WPPI competition finals held after a week of lecturing (Andrea and Mark are both teaching) in London in January.

And by the way, these award-winning photos are from real boudoir sessions and real weddings - we don't enter images from model shoots. So, if you want the chance to look and feel this great, and be in with a change of an image of you winning a national award, get in touch, it's very possible!

Rocking the pin-up look!

Today it was the turn of our very own and very gorgeous assistant Adelle, who totally rocked the vintage pin-up look.

Such a fun photography shoot here at Boudoir Superstar in Leeds, and a great opportunity to try a few more new ideas out too.

The rest of the photos are in the virtual lab as we speak, then they'll be going on the website. The new flyers for this weekend's wedding fairs are already on order ready to collect tomorrow and go go go. Just need to rush the images to print so I can make up the show albums, and finalise the price list to take and send to those who have enquired. Phew, it never stops!

Revealed!

Finally, they're here, the vintage pin-up photos we have been promising you... drum roll please!

Melanie was our lovely, and beautiful model, and her stunning hair and make-up was courtesy of a talented local lady called Vicki Suddaby, who we are delighted to be working with on our shoots.

We had so much fun shooting these scenes, and the weeks of sourcing outfits, accessories and props and preparing paid off.

We were so fortunate to not only have a beautiful model, talented hair and make-up artist and of course the multi award-winning photographer Andrea Barrett, but that the Boudoir Superstar team attended a brilliant course on portrait photography where we developed so many ideas and so much enthusiasm and excitement to really go forward. And I learnt a few handy tricks and techniques to give our photos that little extra 'wow' factor.

Now the hard work begins as we have to get our final album package price list finalised and printed, the rest of the images polished and a show album put together and our special promo flyers sorted all for the UK Wedding Show in Harrogate on Saturday and Sunday. Anyone got any spare hours they can lend me?!

As for the photos above, I hope you like - and if you do and want to have yourself something similar on your walls or in a beautiful little album, just get in touch, or come see us at the show this weekend for special show-only offers.

Exciting news!

Boudoir Superstar HQ is a hive of activity and excitement this week with news that photographer Andrea Barrett has won a merit in the first round of the MPA national photography awards (having won the Yorkshire Classical Photographer of the Year title a few months ago) and also a merit in the Mario Acerboni wedding section. We have yet to find out which photos have been awarded this special status, but I will update you as soon as we know.

In other exciting news the transformation of the customer lounge is complete, hurrah! Well, all that's needed now is for the print order to come back so we can get some of our stunning boudoir, portrait and wedding images on the walls. Here are photos taken earlier.

The large framed photo on the right (above) was a winner last year and really suits the decor I think - just need to properly hang it now as well as some of our other award-winning and favourite images. I do love the classic-style furniture and the mix of black, brown, silver and a hint of gold too. The flooring is just fab. We have re-arranged the furniture to make the room look and flow much better. And for the comfort of guests we also have a brand new fancy pants coffee machine, woooooo!

Hope you like - we would love to hear your feedback either in the comments box or on our Facebook page.

Looking your best - pre-boudoir shoot tips

Although these are on our website, I thought it might be handy to post these on here as well for anyone who has booked or is considering a boudoir photography shoot in the near future.

Obviously, you want to look your best, and of course we are highly capable of using the right posing, lighting and camera angles to make you look fabulous. But there are a few little tricks you can pull ahead of the shoot to really help give yourself the 'wow' factor.

To help you look your best and get the most from your boudoir shoot, here are a few things to think about before the day:

• Book a spray tan or apply self-tanning lotion (make sure you choose the right tone for your skin)
• Book or undertake a leg/bikini/underarm wax or shave (if waxing, do it at least a few days before)
• Book or give yourself a manicure and/or pedicure, with false nails if you prefer
• Exfoliate and moisturise daily to leave skin silky smooth and glowing

On the day:

• Don’t wear tight fitting underwear or clothing that will leave marks on the skin – ditch the bra to avoid strap marks.
• Moisturise and apply make-up, paying particular attention to the eyes and lips – more is more (think dark and sultry) and fake eyelashes can work wonders!
• Style hair

Items to bring with you (all optional, we do have a selection to choose from but it is limited):

• Favourite lingerie and basque sets
• Stockings and killer heels
• Silky dressing gown, frilly skirt or anything else you think could be fun!
• A favourite item of your fiancĂ©’s or husbands such as a football/rugby/work shirt
• Favourite jewellery – beads and diamantes work well
• Make-up and hair styling items for last-minute top-ups/adjustments

If you would prefer for a professional make-up artist to complete your look for the shoot, or just fancy treating yourself, this can be arranged. For more details, please e-mail andrea@andreabarrettphotography.co.uk or call Leeds 0113 2575728 or 07889 101343.

Crazy, fantastic day!

Wow! What a super crazy but totally fantastic day at Ultimate Brides wedding fair!

We saw so many lovely brides-to-be and visitors we couldn't keep up, brides from all over Yorkshire and many holding their big days at some of our favourite Yorkshire wedding venues including Oulton Hall, Waterton Park, Allerton Castle, Hazelwood Castle and more.  The boudoir shots we had on display also got great feedback, which we are so pleased with! Annoyingly our lovely 'little black book' show album had gone AWOL for today (typical, it turned up back at the office!) but we gave out almost every single flyer we had and lots of you entered the competition to win a free boudoir shoot with framed image and 10% off any subsequent order - we will draw the winner and be in touch asap.

If you don't win, worry not as the flyer you received today still entitles you to a free basic session and we will have full details of our new packages online this week, featuring hair and make-up and finished albums - the perfect gift for Christmas (for him, or yourself!)

Don't forget, we will also be updating our several different platforms with our new vintage boudoir shots in little over a week's time, so watch this space and get in touch if you would like the Superstar Boudoir treatment. :)

For now, all that's left to say is that it was so lovely meeting you all and chatting weddings and photography, and we hope to see you again very soon.
